<p>Tony Quan is an L.A. graffiti artist living with ALS who continues to work using <a title="Getting up Tony Quan documentary" href="http://secret-castle.com/tag/tony-quan/" target="_blank">high-tech eye movement tracking</a> to create his new works.</p>

<h1><a title="Fatale #1 review" href="http://www.criminalcomplex.com/fatale-1-brubaker-phillips-review" target="_blank">Fatale</a> by Ed Brubaker and Sean Philips</h1>
<p>I loves me some Ed Brubaker (I&#8217;m sure Sean Philips is nice too&#8230;) and my copy of<a title="Fatale #1 review" href="http://www.criminalcomplex.com/fatale-1-brubaker-phillips-review" target="_blank"> Fatale #1</a> has been thrashed. Quickly get on-board.</p>
<h1>The Midwest Strokes? <a title="Howler" href="http://www.howlerband.com/" target="_blank">Meet Howler</a></h1>
<p>Hotly-tipped <a title="Howler Website" href="http://www.howlerband.com/" target="_blank">Minneapolis band Howler</a> played London last week and are whispered to be the Midwest Strokes &#8211; I&#8217;m loving <em><a title="Howler - Back of your Neck" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=swg9X1LcXm8" target="_blank">Back of Your Neck</a>. </em>Although getting hot overseas, there&#8217;s not so much back home I hear, but it didn&#8217;t hurt Kings of Leon any &#8230; enjoy!</p>

<p>It appears that will soon be able to play your favourite dancing / karate game anywhere if <a title="Kinect in your laptop?" href="http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2399502,00.asp?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=pulsenews" target="_blank">Kinect becomes standard gear in laptops</a>, as well as opening a mass of opportunities for marketing and casual gaming.</p>

<p>I loves the Muppets. And you&#8217;ll love this <a title="Jim Henson Robot movie" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=ivJNNwTGDcw" target="_blank">recently rediscovered short movie Jim Henson</a> made for Bell Telephone in 1963.</p>
<h1><a title="Still Life title and position sensitive artwork" href="http://superfad.com/work/project/still_life" target="_blank">Still Life</a>: Tilt &amp; Position-sensitive artwork</h1>
<p>Picture crooked? No Worries &#8211; it&#8217;s <a title="Still Life project" href="http://superfad.com/work/project/still_life" target="_blank">tilt and position sensitive artwork</a>. Cool idea for changeable advertising eh? From the groovers at SuperFad.</p>
<h1>Lana Del Rey: <a title="Lana Del Rey Born To Die Video" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bag1gUxuU0g" target="_blank">Born To Die</a></h1>
<p>With her debut album out today, it&#8217;s all about Lana. I&#8217;m not sure what sort of marketing lab experiment happened to create Lana Del Rey, but it surely involved watching a Twin Peaks marathon, simultaneously TIVO-ing American Horror Story and listening to Falling by Julee Cruise while creating this <a title="Lana Del Rey Born To Die Video" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bag1gUxuU0g" target="_blank">video for Born To Die</a> on their iPad2.</p>

<p><a title="Beginners guide to 3D Printing" href="http://www.3ders.org/3d-printing-basics.html" target="_blank">3D printing is rad</a> and becoming more mainstream as more printers like <a title="Replicator" href="http://www.gizmag.com/makerbot-replicator-3d-printer/21078/" target="_blank">Replicator</a> and Cubify appear, the tech gets cheaper and consumer demand grows for more and more stuff to make with their 3D printers. The popular (ahem) sharing site The Pirate Bay has <a title="3D pirate bay article" href="http://www.gizmag.com/the-pirate-bay-physibles-3d-printing/21208/" target="_blank">launched a &#8216;physibles&#8217; category</a> for finding 3D printing templates.</p>

<h1>MUSIC | Everyone&#8217;s Mixtape</h1>
<p>I remember being 15 and having crushes expressing myself through my awesome mixtapes. Relive the fun and heartbreak &#8211; the heartbreak of running out of space on a cassette &#8211; using <a title="Everyone's Mixtape" href="http://everyonesmixtape.com/" target="_blank">this social-mixtape maker</a>. Prepare to be young again.</p>
<h1>ELECTION FUN | Build Your Own President</h1>
<p>Unhappy with your choice of candidates for President? The good folks at Big Spaceship let you <a title="Build Your Own President" href="http://www.idiotsbooks.com/buildyourownpresident/" target="_blank">Build your own President</a>. Certainly more interesting than any of the current crop!</p>
<h1>COMICS | Batman Inc and the JSA return!</h1>
<p>The New 52 from DC Comics is cutting six titles and adding six new ones, including <a title="DC New 52 launches 6 new books in May" href="http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&amp;id=36367&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=pulsenews" target="_blank">a revived Batman Incorporated and James Robinson back on the JSA with </a><em><a title="DC New 52 launches 6 new books in May" href="http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&amp;id=36367&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=pulsenews" target="_blank">Earth 2</a></em>. Can&#8217;t wait for this to happen &#8211; I miss my boys!</p>
<h1>GAMES | BitGym</h1>
<p>Relax. You have to give up your gaming addiction even though it&#8217;s January back to the gym time. BitGym lets you <a title="BitGym - Fit Freeway" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZJbKWRnOzs&amp;feature=player_embedded" target="_blank">play games using face-and-effort control via your iPad</a> while working out.</p>
<h1>AUTOMOTIVE | Gracenote MoodGrid</h1>

Hope there isn&#8217;t a &#8220;driving really fast and shaking fist at idiot drivers&#8221; setting.</p>
<h1>DESIGN | DC Entertainment Visual ID</h1>
<p>I&#8217;ve loved DC Comics since I was a wee child in North Dakota, so I&#8217;m a little miffed about the <a title="DC New ID" href="http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2012/01/19/new-brand-identity/" target="_blank">revamp just released for DC Entertainment </a>- sticky labels is the best we can do guys? Judge (harshly) for yourself!</p>
<h1>DIGI-SPORTS | NIKE+ FuelBand</h1>
<p>More ways to keep track of your fitness goals or just a sexy, digital reminder of 2011&#8242;s holiday indulgence? The <a title="Nike+ FuelBand" href="http://www.nike.com/fuelband/" target="_blank">Nike+ FuelBand</a> tracks lots of stuff about your movement and goals and looks hot, too.</p>
<h1>VIDEO | ROME - <em>TWO AGAINST ONE</em></h1>
<p>Awesome<a title="Rome - Two against One" href="http://vimeo.com/34706361" target="_blank"> Chris Milk video for Danger Mouse side-project</a> with this not-as-cringe-inducing-as-you&#8217;d-think duet from Norah Jones and Jack White.</p>

After watching far too many movies set in the future over the holiday break &#8211; Christmas classics like Terminator 2, Strange Days, Total Recall and Gattaca &#8211; I&#8217;ve cast my crystal ball app 10 years out. Check in here on Jan 3 2022 to check my accuracy &#8211; if you&#8217;re not the human slave of an Earth-dominating giant, ultra-thin robot iPad with digitally implanted tattoos and bionic eyes!! Enjoy 9 links of fun, but scary trends and one chock-full of 2012 social media predictions. Have a great, happy, loving, geeky 2012 and whatever you do, don&#8217;t download the Skynet app when it comes out in a few years.</p>
<h1>1. Robots Making Everything</h1>
<p>Here&#8217;s where it begins: With staff suicide rates up, productivity goes down. Solution? <a title="500K Robots replace workforce in China" href="http://singularityhub.com/2011/12/13/chinese-company-continues-plan-to-replace-workforce-with-500000-robots/?utm_source=pulsenews&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SingularityHub+%28Singularity+Hub%29" target="_blank">Replace the staff with robots</a> &#8211; lots of them.</p>
<h1>2. Robots Looking After Stuff for Us</h1>
<p>Yotel in NYC has <a title="Bellhop Robots " href="http://www.abb.com/cawp/seitp202/ea6497a1dae78052c1257944004a1bf5.aspx" target="_blank">a Bell-hop Bot in the lobby</a> which manages the luggage storage and retrieval for guests.</p>
<h1>3. Robots Buddies To Hang With</h1>
<p>The <a title="NAO Robot" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=nNbj2G3GmAo" target="_blank">NAO Robot</a> is very slim, cool, plays music&#8230;.and will eventually turn on you and enslave you! Have fun and keep it away from the knife drawer!!!</p>
<h1>4. Really Cool, Friendly-Looking Robots</h1>
<p>Jon Pope is an industrial designer who imagines <a title="Jon Pope Walking Carbody" href="http://www.coroflot.com/jonpope/Walking-Carbody" target="_blank">what futuristic robotic vehicles will look like</a>: friendly, cuddly and hopefully benevolent.</p>
<h1>5. iPad Controlled Flying Video Robots</h1>
<p>Parrot ARDrone&#8217;s are flying, robot-controlled drone-copters loaded with cameras and cool digital toys. <a title="Drone Station Controller" href="http://drone-apps.com/drone-station-for-mac/" target="_blank">Drone Station let&#8217;s you control the ARDrone</a> using an iPad or game controller&#8230;until it&#8217;s had enough and enslaves you, that is&#8230;..</p>
<h1>6. Luminescent Bacteria Pixels</h1>
<p>Digital signage created from &#8216;biopixels&#8217;, using <a title="Biopixels" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=3Fzu2Av6BmE" target="_blank">millions of live bacteria connected to digital switching systems</a>, making them into living pixels. Creepy-cool.</p>
<h1>7. A.D.D: Adolescent Demo Division</h1>
<p>Comics predict the future &#8230;. again! In <a title="A.D.D Vertigo Comics" href="http://www.dccomics.com/vertigo/comics/?cm=20749" target="_blank">Vertigo&#8217;s new comic, ahem, graphic novel A.D.D</a> kids are bred and trained from birth to test video games and media and appear on reality TV shows &#8211; sound scary or just like the most awesome job ever?</p>
<h1>8. Augmented Reality Contact Lens</h1>
<p>Currently being tested on rabbits, <a title="AR contact lenses" href="http://spectrum.ieee.org/biomedical/bionics/augmented-reality-in-a-contact-lens/0" target="_blank">micro-circuit enhanced contact lenses</a> will allow us to view AR and digital information sent from wifi to the surface of our eyes. Sign up now for your very own bionic eyes!</p>
<h1>9. Make Your Tattoos Digital with MoodINQ</h1>
<p>Because we will want to modify not just our bodies, but what we mark them with, the <a title="MoodINQ Digital Tattoo Display" href="http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/41/moodinq-tattoo.shtml" target="_blank">MoodINQ Digital Tattoo Display</a> uses a surgically-implanted, sub-dermal grid called a Canvas, which allows you to digitally &#8216;print&#8217; tattoos onto your skin. These digi-tatts can be removed and &#8216;re-inked&#8217; to create new images.</p>
<h1>10. 30 Social Media Predictions for 2012</h1>
<p>Ok, so one actual bit about predictions and this one is bloody good. Lots of <a title="Social Media predictions for 2012" href="http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/30-social-media-predictions-for-2012-from-the-pros/" target="_blank">opinions about what social will look like this year</a>, sharply-written and bite-sized! Bring on 2012!</p>

Have a great holiday wherever you are and kick some ass in 2012! Cheers Tom</h6>
<h1>Saatchi &amp; Saatchi LoveMix</h1>
<p>Our holiday gift to clients and friends this year is a <a title="LoveMix Vol 1 and 2 downloads" href="http://www.saatchi.com/lovemix" target="_blank">double-volume-download of 25 original songs</a> written by bands and solo stars from our network of offices. It&#8217;s pretty awesome bunch of songs all written to the themes of Love and Hope. I&#8217;m not just because our band has a song on it&#8230; C&#8217;mon, it&#8217;s free! Enjoy and share!</p>
<h1>Sleigh Bells | Born To Lose</h1>
<p>I loves me some Sleigh Bells. They still haven&#8217;t returned the top-end of my hearing that got ripped out of my tympanum at their Coachella set. Enjoy their (not at all holiday related) new tune Born To Lose, a hint of new LP <a title="Sleigh Bells New Album/Tour" href="http://stereogum.com/899331/sleigh-bells-announce-tour-reign-of-terror-tracklist/tour-dates/" target="_blank">Reign of Terror</a>.<br />
<iframe id="tsFrame118311" src="http://cdn.topspin.net/api/v2/widget/player/118311" frameborder="0" width="400" height="400"></iframe></p>
<h1>Earmilk&#8217;s Top 100 Dance Tracks of 2011</h1>
<p>I love Earmilk almost as much as I love my dog. In fact, it&#8217;s a dead-heat somedays as I never have to feed Earmilk or give it a bath. Earmilk is <a title="Earmilk Top 100 Dance Tracks" href="http://www.earmilk.com/2011/12/12/earmilk-crates-100-must-have-dance-tracks-from-2011-100-91/" target="_blank">counting down and </a><em><a title="Earmilk Top 100 Dance Tracks" href="http://www.earmilk.com/2011/12/12/earmilk-crates-100-must-have-dance-tracks-from-2011-100-91/" target="_blank">giving away</a></em> their picks of the 100 rump-shakers of 2011. 10 tracks a day leading to Christmas.</p>
<h1>Charlie Brown Christmas on lastfm | Vince Guarldi Trio</h1>
<p>Only a serious Scrooge doesn&#8217;t like Christmas time in the world of Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang. I used to dance my eight-year old ass off to <a title="Charlie Brown theme song" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKkaydihNTM" target="_blank">the Charlie Brown theme song</a> and <a title="Charlie Brown Christmas music" href="http://www.last.fm/music/Vince+Guaraldi+Trio/A+Charlie+Brown+Christmas" target="_blank">sing along to these tunes from Vince Guaraldi Trio</a> during the CB Christmas special.</p>
<h1>Radiohead (were never gonna) Occupy Wall Street</h1>
<p>Radiohead&#8217;s brand is so powerful that they&#8217;re almost like a big, massive multi-national corporation, but with riffs and cool videos. The hoaxster behind the &#8216;<a title="Radiohead Hoax for OWS" href="http://www.spin.com/articles/meet-guy-behind-radiohead-occupy-wall-street-hoax?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=pulsenews" target="_blank">Radiohead gig for OWS</a>&#8216; is revealed &#8211; an interesting case of brand-power, assumed intent and the speed of information.</p>
<h1>Road Inc: Interactive iPad Museum of Cars</h1>
<p>I love Cars, The Cars and <em>Cars</em> by Gary Numan. I also love Road Inc, a<a title="Road Inc app" href="http://roadincorporated.com/" target="_blank">n interactive experience on iPad with classic cars</a> and sweet things to play with. This app points the way to where the coffee table art-book will go in the future.</p>
<h1>Mini iPad?</h1>
<p>Our ads and apps are about to get even more intimate. A really, really, really <a title="Mini iPad" href="http://allthingsd.com/20111216/digitimes-is-a-mini-ipad-on-the-way/?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=pulsenews" target="_blank">small incredibly good-looking tablet</a>? Derek Zoolander seems to think so&#8230;</p>
<h1>FetchNotes: Organising for the Twitter Crowd</h1>
<p>Organise your notes and thoughts and lists using a Twitter-like system, which claims to make sense out of random jottings and the piles of lists you make. You can <a title="FetchNotes" href="http://www.fetchnotes.com/invite/Netted" target="_blank">sign-up for the very deep beta version</a> and watch it evolve. I know that there&#8217;s a serious multi-player game in here somewhere&#8230;.</p>
<h1>GiftRocket: Personalised Gift Certificates</h1>
<p>Want to do that last minute gift that makes it look like you put lots of thought into personally selecting just the right thing? <a title="GiftRocket" href="http://www.giftrocket.com/" target="_blank">GiftRocket</a> is seriously saving my ass, cuz it lets you select a business-specific gift card for your loved one&#8217;s present. US-based at present (get it? PRESENT?) hehehe&#8230;</p>
<h1>GeekGift: 80s Video Game Circuitboard Watches</h1>
<p>Know a Nerd with a semi-full Christmas stocking? Dip and Turn Switches were fixed onto circuitboards to fine-tune the behaviour of old-skool digital stuff and now make stunning bling on <a title="80s Video Game watches" href="http://www.watchismo.com/click-watches.aspx" target="_blank">groovy retro-watches</a>.</p>

This week has apps to make your work-out fun, a look at what Earth looks like from Santa&#8217;s POV, groovy new websites and social platforms and some very cool interaction with surfaces, video and more! For daily updates, follow @tomeslinger on Twitter!</h2>
<h1>Fitocracy | Turn your work-out into a social game</h1>
<p>We should no longer have to do anything mundane anymore since we have smartphones, apps and lots of people trying to gamify everything. If you&#8217;re bored with your work-out and you love your EpicWin app, you might need <a title="Fitocracy" href="http://www.fitocracy.com/" target="_blank">Fitocracy</a>.</p>
<h1>Trippy Time-Lapse Video of Earth from ISS</h1>
<p>At this time of year, I find myself humbled by many things. When I saw this <a title="Earth from ISS" href="http://vimeo.com/32001208" target="_blank">video of the Earth from the heavens</a>, edited by <a title="Michael Konig" href="http://www.koenigm.com/" target="_blank">Michael Konig</a>, this topped my list of holiday-season-humblers. This is what it looks like from Santa&#8217;s Sleigh!!! Isn&#8217;t it great to be alive???</p>
<h1>Audi Interactive Installation at Art Basel Miami</h1>
<p>Beautifully crafted and perfectly placed at the flashpoint of modern art coolness recently at <a title="Audi Installation at Art Basel Miami" href="http://visuall.net/2011/12/03/big-audi-realize-urban-future-at-design-miami-2011/" target="_blank">Art Basel Miami</a>, this is billed as the imagining of <a title="Audi Interactive Installation at Art Basel Miami" href="http://bit.ly/sM6TcG" target="_blank">digital driving surfaces in the future</a>. I say &#8216;uh, yes please!&#8217;</p>
<h1>One Time Secret</h1>
<p>There&#8217;s a game in here somewhere &#8230;Enter your clandestine content in the <a title="One Time Secret" href="https://onetimesecret.com/" target="_blank">One Time Secret</a> text box and with the click of a button you’ll generate a one-use-only link to your secret message.</p>
<h1>Kinectic Poetry</h1>
<div>I love type but I go CRAY-ZEE for <a title="Kinetic Poetry" href="bit.ly/tMMIVz" target="_blank">type that you can play with</a>! That&#8217;s not a typo in the title &#8211; think Wii with Words &#8211; Yum!</div>
<h1>Airclicker: Finger and Gesture Navigation</h1>
<div>Imagine twiddling your fingers in the air and making stuff happen on screens, augmented reality and just about any digital thing? <a title="Air Clicker" href="http://hypenotice.com/design/air-clicker-two-finger-camera/04/" target="_blank">Airclicker</a> shows what it&#8217;s going to be like when we don&#8217;t need screens to slide our fingers across in the (near) future &#8211; just some funky rings or sub-dermal implants in your fingernails.</div>
<h1>Interactive Projections and Installations | Lichtfaktor</h1>
<div>A collective of artists, designers, technicians and apparently really cool visual digital folks, <a title="Lichtfaktor" href="http://www.lichtfaktor.eu/" target="_blank">Lichtfaktor creates interactive projections</a> (and lots of other stuff on their website) that are drop-dead, teeth-gnashingly cool.</div>
<h1>Samsung Flexible AMOLED Technology</h1>
<div>No release date yet, but Samsung&#8217;s demo video for their <a title="Samsun AMOLED Technology" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=f4AhTiQkWwk" target="_blank">Flexible AMOLED Technology </a>shows a transparent gadget which builds on existing touchscreen technology, incorporating text recognition, camera functions and a funky flexibility. NICE!</div>
<div><span style="font-size: 26px; font-weight: bold;">Match: Mixing Video and Social</span></div>
<div>There are piles of ways to find out what to watch, but instead of using ratings and &#8216;other people&#8217; to figure out what you might like, just-out-of-Beta <a title="Matcha Social Video Platform" href="http://www.matcha.tv/" target="_blank">social video platform Matcha</a> can sort content by the what’s newest, most popular, highly recommended (based on what programs you mark with a thumbs-up), or what your friends are watching. Once you’ve found what you’d like to stream, Matcha provides links to begin watching immediately. <a title="Matcha TV blog" href="http://blog.matcha.tv/" target="_blank">Matcha&#8217;s blog has interesting updates</a> and behind-the-scenes look at making the service.</div>
<div><span style="font-size: 26px; font-weight: bold;">Tunes: <em>Cocaine</em> | The Internet (Little Dragon Remix)</span></div>
<div>I likes me some Odd Future and I loves me the Internet, so when I found out they had a spin-off &#8216;group&#8217; called <a title="The Internet Interview" href="http://www.spin.com/articles/odd-future-offshoot-internet-talk-debut-lp-purple-naked-ladies" target="_blank">THE INTERNET</a>, I was in. Here&#8217;s my techno naughty pleasure Little Dragon remixing their tune <a title="Cocaine - The Internet" href="http://hypenotice.com/music/the-internet-–-cocaine-little-dragon-remix/01/" target="_blank">Cocaine</a>.</div>

<h1>Magisto Auto-Video Highlight Editor</h1>
<p>Shoot lots of video that sits on your phones n&#8217; pads n&#8217; drives which you just have to edit &#8216;someday&#8217;? Y&#8217;all know how I loves me some robot-anything and this is my current favourite: <a title="Magisto" href="http://www.magisto.com/" target="_blank">Magisto </a>offers a simple three-step process for turning videos of any length into veritable highlight reels. Let the algorithms do the work, you take the glory.</p>
<h1><strong>Honda Civic: The Experiment</strong></h1>
<p>Position the HTML5 windows to <a title="Honda Experiments Demo Film" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKXeQ_rkEWM" target="_blank">create little experiments</a>, which I&#8217;m unclear on how they move the sheet-metal, but they are darn cool!</p>

<div>
<p>Ned Wenlock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Okr5nL-3gfQ&amp;feature=player_embedded</p>
<h1>OKGO and Cuervo Pop-Up Gigs</h1>
<p>Not the most compelling live act in the world, easily the best bit of anything attached to OKGO is the videos. I&#8217;m pretty sure that <a title="OKGO and Cuervo" href="http://www.cuervocold.com/en/verifyage" target="_blank">everyone in advertising has tried to get this idea made</a>&#8230;am I right? Check out the <a title="OKGO behind the scenes" href="http://www.mindseyemedia.tv/?action=smartfilter&amp;f=guystephens&amp;v_id=272" target="_blank">behind-the-scenes stuff</a> too.</p>
<h1><em>The Gate: </em>Short film trailer</h1>
<p>A <a title="The Gate" href="http://io9.com/the-gate/" target="_blank">Beautiful Mutant Freak-Out </a>of <span style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 13px;">DNA-spliced freaky-ness. Written and directed by Matt Westrup and produced by Spencer Friend. </span></p>
<h1>Tripple Nippples: LSD</h1>
<p>Freaky Japanese, Pharell Williams-approved electropop band, according to As stated by <a href="http://yvynyl.tumblr.com/post/12643224627/premiere-trippple-nippples-lsd-seriously-this" target="_blank">YVYNYL</a>, this band could cause &#8220;a spontaneous black hole or a rip in the space-time continuum&#8221;. You had Pharell at spontaneous. <a title="Download LSD" href="http://files2.earmilk.com/upload/mp3/2011-11/LSD_Trippple%20Nippples.mp3" target="_blank">Download LSD</a> and DropOut!</p>
<h1>Muppet CakePops</h1>
<p><span style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 13px;">I was lucky enough to see the Muppets live on Saturday Night Live last weekend &#8211; and I loves me some Muppets. I like them even better when I can bake and eat them. If you&#8217;re the same, this <a title="Muppet Pops" href="http://www.bakerella.com/the-muppets-cake-pops/" target="_blank">Muppet Baking tutorial</a> will come in handy!</span></p>
<h1>Soda-Machine Medication Dispensers</h1>
<p><span style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 13px;">Robert Gauldin&#8217;s new artwork answers your question: &#8220;I wonder what it would be like to get Xanax or other <a title="Robert Gauldin" href="http://www.robertgauldin.com/" target="_blank">prescription meds from a dispensing machine</a>?&#8221;</span></p>

<h1>Agency Incubators Grow New Technology</h1>
<p>Every agency talks about copyrighting their ideas, creating their own products and generally making the idea product live longer and create on-going revenue streams. Too entrepreneurial for adshops? Here&#8217;s how <a title="Ad Agency Incubators" href="http://www.digiday.com/stories/agency-incubators-are-growing-new-technology/?emailsource=social" target="_blank">a few hotshops are doing it</a>.</p>

<p>Ever have your favourite digital thingie stolen? <a title="Prey Open-Source Police Force" href="http://preyproject.com/" target="_blank">Prey</a> is open-source, free anti-theftware which helps you find your stolen stuff. They now need to invent a free-open source Ninja app that beats the snot out of the person who stole your stuff.</p>
<h1>GoldRun: Social Virtual Treasure hunting</h1>
<p><a title="GoldRun" href="http://www.goldrungo.com/" target="_blank">GoldRun app</a> lets you collect prizes and cool stuff hidden around your city, which you can trade and share with your mates on your social networks. <a title="GoldRun demo" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OAjcro98tg" target="_blank">Check out the demo</a> GoldRun is on the verge of being part of some great, impactful ideas.</p>

Creative Social, Creative Looting and Comics</h1>
<p>Last night I gave a 10-min, rapid-fire presentation for Creative Social here in London. The overall theme was &#8216;Creative Looting&#8217; and my take dived into my shameless pilfering of 40+ years of comic collecting to inspire my work and the teams around me. The <a title="Legion of Super-Heroes Creative Looting Presentation" href="http://slidesha.re/uPfKV8" target="_blank">presentation I gave is here</a> and clips from the speakers are <a title="Source Video channel" href="http://www.youtube.com/wersource" target="_blank">here</a>.</p>
<h1>The (now longer) wait for Siri</h1>
<p>Apple announced today that <a title="Siri on Apple $S only" href="http://thenextweb.com/apple/2011/11/09/apple-confirms-siri-will-remain-exclusive-to-the-iphone-4s-for-now/?awesm=tnw.to_1BksB" target="_blank">Siri will only be on iPhone 4S</a> for the time being, which means that folks that have been <a title="Siri Demo" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpjpVAB06O4" target="_blank">hanging on since this clip teased us in 2010</a> will need to shuck out for some new gear (er, like me).</p>
<h1>Two-Sides: Making Debates Classy (again)</h1>
<p>I loves me some commenting on stuff and with <a title="Two Sides Debate Site" href="http://www.twosides.co/" target="_blank">TwoSides</a> you can have a debate and plenty of info-graphic porn, too! Planners, strategists and other stat fiends: dig into this fast!</p>
<h1>Disney AppMATes</h1>
<p>My dog loves my iPad. Strangely, so do human children. I&#8217;m sure there&#8217;s something bad about getting kids <a title="Disney App Mates" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaNzbCtxtcY&amp;feature=player_embedded" target="_blank">hooked on touch-screens with branded entertainment like Disney AppMATes</a>but until we figure out why it&#8217;s bad we&#8217;re going to see lots of cool stuff like this.</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 26px; font-weight: bold;">Are <a title="The Death of QR Codes" href="http://www.imediaconnection.com/content/30267.asp?utm_source=twitterfeed&amp;utm_medium=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=imediaconnection" target="_blank">QR codes bad</a>? It might be <em>your fault!</em></span></p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve been in a creative review in the last 3 years, at least one idea would have a QR code in it. You see them everywhere and on most everything, but does anyone <em>really use them</em>? A <a title="Death of the QR Code article" href="http://www.imediaconnection.com/content/30267.asp?utm_source=twitterfeed&amp;utm_medium=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=imediaconnection" target="_blank">great article on where QR is</a> and how we can help make it better and more useful.</p>
<h1>Timberland, Live Events, QR and Mobile Sales</h1>
<p>On the other hand, Timberland clearly doesn&#8217;t share the opinion that QR isn&#8217;t a cool, useful channel for sales, with <a title="Timberland and mobile" href="http://www.clickz.com/clickz/news/2117391/timberland-moves-faster-mobile-commerce" target="_blank">the launch of events and QR-driven</a> product info and mobile sales channel.</p>
<h1>IBM THINK Installation</h1>
<p>The press releases calls this an (ahem) &#8216;forest of interactivity&#8217;. I&#8217;d call it <a title="IBM Think 100" href="http://www.ibm.com/ibm100/us/en/thinkexhibit/" target="_blank">big, rad screens with lots of cool graphics</a> that interact with the people who are around them, loosely describing how the world works and 100 years of IBM-ness. Prediction: this will be sliced into many a mood reel to come.</p>
<h1><a title="Bizwords from Hilton Garden Inn" href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bizwords-by-hilton-garden-inn/id454744996?mt=8" target="_blank">Bizwords</a>: Mobile Game for Hilton Garden Inns</h1>
<p>It&#8217;s Buzzword Bingo meets convenient, affordable business accommodation. Not sure how this encourages repeat use of the hotel chain, but you can download and <a title="Bizwords Mobile Game" href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bizwords-by-hilton-garden-inn/id454744996?mt=8" target="_blank">play Bizwords</a> next time you&#8217;re stuck in your hotel room.</p>
<h1>Nerdy Day Trips</h1>
<p>Geek or Nerd? One is worn as a badge of pride, the other a spells pocket protector, high-water pants and tape on glasses (and I&#8217;m not talking about the look I rocked in 6th grade). Whichever way you swing, you&#8217;ll dig these <a title="Nerdy Day Trips" href="http://nerdydaytrips.com/" target="_blank">high-cheese, dorky destinations</a>, conveniently geo-marked and tagged. Beware: you might get a tan while away from your screen.</p>
<h1>Nerdy, but Awesome Drummers, Part 1: Neil Peart</h1>
<p>Neil Peart is arguably the best rock drummer of all time (cue nerdy drummer debate) as well as cryptic lyricist and Ayn Rand devotee. But how good is his computer simulated self? Enjoy the <a title="Neil Peart YYZ - Live" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa0C5Uxpd3c&amp;feature=related" target="_blank">real Neil bashing out YYZ</a>, then <a title="Virtual Neil Peart - YYZ" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-2fKi9Zu5o" target="_blank">check out the virtual Neil</a> and compare the technique and the buffed-up guns on V-Neil.</p>

<pre><strong><em>Warning: this installment of Tom's Ten uses the word "awesome" 16 times.</em></strong></pre>
<h1>8-Bit Me | <a title="8-Bit Me mobile game" href="http://eightbit.me/" target="_blank">Mobile Check-in Gaming</a>, 80&#8242;s Style</h1>
<p>8-BitMe kicked off as the spot to make an 8-bit avatar of yourself just like your fave 80s video game (I always wanted to be in Berzerk &#8230;). Wouldn&#8217;t it be cool if you could <em>actually be in a video game</em>? <a title="8_Bit Me demo video" href="http://eightbit.me/" target="_blank">Check out the demo video</a> for the mobile game, sign-in and (when fully deployed) PLAY!</p>
<h1>Fovea&#8217;s Secret Garden | Co-de-iT</h1>
<p><a title="Fovea's Secret Garden - overview and video" href="http://vimeo.com/29255834" target="_blank">Interactive installation</a> from computational design gurus <a title="Co-de-iT overview of Fovea's Secret Garden" href="http://www.co-de-it.com/wordpress/convoluted-inferences-foveas-secret-garden.html" target="_blank">Co-de-iT</a> which, according to the press release, simulates peripheral vision-brain receptor stuff. uh, ok. I think that it&#8217;s pretty rad looking and would be an amazing lighting fixture in my new flat.</p>
<h1>Batman: Arkham City 3D Game</h1>
<p>Arkham City is the follow-up to the Arkham Asylum console game, which took game play, craft and super-hero fanboy fantasy to a whole new level. To get yourself in a complete Bat-lather, here&#8217;s the <a title="Catwoman Trailer - Arkham Asylum" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbm7xC11bjU&amp;feature=relmfu" target="_blank">trailer featuring Catwoman</a> and an <a title="Interview with Arkham City creators" href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-ragogna/chatting-with-embatman-ar_b_988255.html?ir=Technology" target="_blank">interview with the team</a>behind the game. <a title="Arkham City Facebook Page" href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Batman-Arkham-City/148756228521333" target="_blank">Arkham City is released 18 October </a>- take the week off.</p>
<h1>Plastic Wax</h1>
<p>Since I&#8217;m in Sydney this week, here&#8217;s a little visual treat from Down Under. Plastic Wax is an amazing animation/games design/3D creative monster with lots of <a title="Plastic Wax" href="http://www.plasticwax.com/" target="_blank">tasty hard-drive groaningly tasty eye-candy</a> on their site.</p>
<h1>RNZAF Challenges | Saatchi &amp; Saatchi NZ</h1>
<p>This rather cool idea asks you to &#8216;Step Up&#8217; and see if you have what it takes to fly a helicopter, pick up supplies and make decisions like a real NZ Air Force pilot. The twist is that you are &#8216;actually&#8217; flying&#8230;.or are you? Check out the <a title="RNZAF Game Demo" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qxVk7PXiMQ&amp;feature=relmfu" target="_blank">game demo</a> and a look <a title="RNZAF - Behind the Scenes" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n5-5QB4Gac&amp;feature=relmfu" target="_blank">behind-the-scenes</a>.</p>
<h1>Michael Parekowhai | 8 Oct &#8211; 12 Nov 2011 Michael Lett Gallery</h1>
<p>I&#8217;ve been a fan of NZ artist <a title="Michael Parekowhai" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Parekowhai" target="_blank">Michael Parekowhai</a> for years and am blessed to <a title="A night at the opera" href="http://www.pageblackiegallery.co.nz/exhibition.php?exhibitionid=113&amp;showimage=1522" target="_blank">own one of his works</a>. To me, his work is like looking at what would happen if Magritte was the creative director of Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. A new show of his work opens on 8 October at <a title="Michael Lett" href="http://www.michaellett.com/artist/?artist=Michael+Parekowhai&amp;info=work&amp;show=Michael+Parekowhai#Michael+Parekowhai" target="_blank">Michael Lett Gallery</a> in Auckland, New Zealand. Here&#8217;s <a title="Michael Parekowhai at Auckland Art Gallery" href="http://www.aucklandartgallery.com/the-collection/browse-artists/563/michael-parekowhai" target="_blank">some of my favourites</a>. Enjoy!</p>
<h1>The Cars | <a title="The Cars - You Might Think video" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8oZZJojROo" target="_blank">You Might Think</a></h1>
<p>I&#8217;m in Sydney for the next couple of weeks and Spring has sprung, which can only mean one thing: Listen to The Cars! The New Wave hand-clap velociraptors are back together with a new record which is surprisingly good. <em><a title="You Might Think video" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8oZZJojROo" target="_blank">You Might Think</a></em> was hugely influential, an <a title="You Might Think wiki" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Might_Think" target="_blank">eye-popping piece of award-gathering innovation</a> in 1984 and still pretty awesome. Let the good. times. roooolllllllll.</p>
<h1>Zaha Hadid: <a title="Zaha Hadid exhibition" href="http://www.philamuseum.org/exhibitions/750.html" target="_blank">Form In Motion Exhibition</a></h1>
<p>I loves me some Zaha Hadid, but I don&#8217;t want to be <em>anywhere </em><em>near anything </em>she designs that has wheels on it, knowwhatI&#8217;msayin&#8217;? The exhibition is in Phillie if you can make it or stay a safe distance and watch the <a title="Zaha Hadid exhibition" href="http://www.philamuseum.org/exhibitions/750.html" target="_blank">overview video of the show</a> from a safe distance.</p>
<h1>Wiesmann <a title="Wiesmann GT MF5" href="http://www.wiesmann.com/en/models/gt_mf5/exterior#/_my_media/1/1/GT_MF5/Bildergalerie_Exterieur/_tn/326_685_0_gt_mf5_galerie_exterieur_07.jpg" target="_blank">GT MF5</a></h1>
<p><a title="Wiesmann at IAA" href="http://www.notcot.com/archives/2011/09/wiesmann-at-iaa-2011.php" target="_blank">NOTCOT reporting from the IAA</a> points out the &#8216;Batman: The Animated Series&#8217; come-to-life quality of the GT MF5. When I get my jaw off the floor, I&#8217;ll agree.</p>
<h1>Kraftwerk 3D <a title="Kraftwerk + Wallpaper collaboration" href="http://pitchfork.com/news/43938-kraftwork-will-guest-edit-emwallpaperem-magazine/" target="_blank">Wallpaper</a></h1>
<p>The sentence start promisingly enough: <a title="Kraftwerk and Wallpaper" href="http://pitchfork.com/news/43938-kraftwork-will-guest-edit-emwallpaperem-magazine/" target="_blank">Kraftwerk collaborating with Wallpaper</a> for their October issue to do a bunch of cool 3D visuals, coinciding with the iPad version of the mag. Steal a copy from the airport lounge before your next flight to decide if your mind is blown <strong>OR</strong> if Kraftwerk have been stuck in some Boolean worm-hole/time-warp since releasing the awesome 3D freakout videos like <em><a title="Musique Non-Stop - Kraftwerk" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=DnwtsavHlVA" target="_blank">Musique Non-Stop</a></em>.</p>

Hopefully, this tech will be used solely for good and help people suffering from memory loss and degenerative brain diseases. But, you can see the iPhone 12 ads with iMemory chips installed &#8211; there will no doubt be &#8216;an app for that&#8217;, probably in nanotech-pill form.</p>

<p>From the Saatchi &amp; Saatchi Impossible Brief, BloodRelations lets you donate virtual blood online. ‘Blood Relations’ is the realisation of the winning idea received in response to the Impossible Brief, announced at Cannes this year.
