8-Bit Me | Mobile Check-in Gaming, 80′s Style
8-BitMe kicked off as the spot to make an 8-bit avatar of yourself just like your fave 80s video game (I always wanted to be in Berzerk …). Wouldn’t it be cool if you could actually be in a video game? Check out the demo video for the mobile game, sign-in and (when fully deployed) PLAY!
Fovea’s Secret Garden | Co-de-iT
Interactive installation from computational design gurus Co-de-iT which, according to the press release, simulates peripheral vision-brain receptor stuff. uh, ok. I think that it’s pretty rad looking and would be an amazing lighting fixture in my new flat.
Batman: Arkham City 3D Game
Arkham City is the follow-up to the Arkham Asylum console game, which took game play, craft and super-hero fanboy fantasy to a whole new level. To get yourself in a complete Bat-lather, here’s the trailer featuring Catwoman and an interview with the teambehind the game. Arkham City is released 18 October - take the week off.
Plastic Wax
Since I’m in Sydney this week, here’s a little visual treat from Down Under. Plastic Wax is an amazing animation/games design/3D creative monster with lots of tasty hard-drive groaningly tasty eye-candy on their site.
RNZAF Challenges | Saatchi & Saatchi NZ
This rather cool idea asks you to ‘Step Up’ and see if you have what it takes to fly a helicopter, pick up supplies and make decisions like a real NZ Air Force pilot. The twist is that you are ‘actually’ flying….or are you? Check out the game demo and a look behind-the-scenes.
Michael Parekowhai | 8 Oct – 12 Nov 2011 Michael Lett Gallery
I’ve been a fan of NZ artist Michael Parekowhai for years and am blessed to own one of his works. To me, his work is like looking at what would happen if Magritte was the creative director of Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. A new show of his work opens on 8 October at Michael Lett Gallery in Auckland, New Zealand. Here’s some of my favourites. Enjoy!
The Cars | You Might Think
I’m in Sydney for the next couple of weeks and Spring has sprung, which can only mean one thing: Listen to The Cars! The New Wave hand-clap velociraptors are back together with a new record which is surprisingly good. You Might Think was hugely influential, an eye-popping piece of award-gathering innovation in 1984 and still pretty awesome. Let the good. times. roooolllllllll.
Zaha Hadid: Form In Motion Exhibition
I loves me some Zaha Hadid, but I don’t want to be anywhere near anything she designs that has wheels on it, knowwhatI’msayin’? The exhibition is in Phillie if you can make it or stay a safe distance and watch the overview video of the show from a safe distance.
Wiesmann GT MF5
NOTCOT reporting from the IAA points out the ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ come-to-life quality of the GT MF5. When I get my jaw off the floor, I’ll agree.
Kraftwerk 3D Wallpaper
The sentence start promisingly enough: Kraftwerk collaborating with Wallpaper for their October issue to do a bunch of cool 3D visuals, coinciding with the iPad version of the mag. Steal a copy from the airport lounge before your next flight to decide if your mind is blown OR if Kraftwerk have been stuck in some Boolean worm-hole/time-warp since releasing the awesome 3D freakout videos like Musique Non-Stop.
